Breed traits and characteristics

The Tiffanie cat breed is similar in appearance to the Asian Shorthair. However, they have a medium-length coat of luxurious silky hair that’s shorter around the shoulders. These are slim, muscular cats that are well-known for being affectionate, gentle, active, and curious. Tiffanies crave attention! So, it’s important that you can devote enough time to cater to their demanding needs if you’re considering adding a Tiffanie to your family.

These cats first appeared in the 1980s as the result of a gene mutation that caused long hair in Burmilla's (a cross between Burmese and Chinchilla breeds). However, the Tiffanie breed didn’t achieve full championship status until 2003. Until today, they remain the only semi-long-haired breed in the Asian group.

Tiffanie cats have mellow personalities, and they are at their happiest when surrounded by their beloved owners. So, they are better suited to homes where someone is around for most of the day. If you are looking for a devoted feline that will shower you with affection and want to be with you day and night, the Tiffanie could be a great choice for you.

These cats are more than happy to spend most of the day indoors, either curled up on the lap of their favourite person or dashing around after a toy. A Tiffanie is guaranteed to get on well with every member of the family. However, they do have a bit of a jealous streak so always introduce new animals slowly and with care. They are generally quite quiet felines that will do well in a home with older children.

10 reasons to add a Asian Longhair to your family

Tiffanies are very intuitive and can sense your moods. If they notice you are feeling down, they will offer snuggles and stay by your side.

Tiffanies can be quite dog-like in the sense that they will wait for you by the door when you come home and appear visibly pleased to see you.

Tiffanies have an incredibly warm and loving nature that you will feel every day. They will follow you around the house as they like to stay close by. You'll always notice their presence, making them excellent companions, particularly for people who live alone.

This breed could not be any different from the stereotype of an 'aloof cat'. They quickly become devoted companions; before you know it, they will be an inseparable part of your daily life.

Social and confident, Tiffanies do well with families with children. They adore attention from younger humans and will make themselves an integral part of your household.

With their plush, flowing coat, expressive almond-shaped eyes, and regal posture, Tiffanies are undeniably beautiful cats that bring a touch of elegance to any home.

These cats have stunning silky fur, but as they are only semi-longhair, they are less prone to matting and are surprisingly easy to groom.

Tiffanies do well in most environments and make suitable indoor-only cats. They enjoy both active playtime and relaxed cuddle sessions, making them versatile companions.

Tiffanies have soft, melodic voices and a gentle communication style. Unlike some vocal breeds, they prefer to "talk" in a calm, soothing manner, using quiet chirps or trills to express their needs or affection

As a relatively uncommon breed, their rarity adds to their charm, allowing you to introduce a unique cat to friends and family.

Meet the Tiffanie

Tiffanies are medium-sized cats, typically weighing between 4.5 and 6.5kg. They have a slender but muscular build, so they are often heavier than they look. Their tail is a particular highlight; It's long and feathery, like many long-haired breeds.

One of the Tiffanie cat's most captivating features is its expressive almond-shaped eyes. Depending on their coat colour, their eyes can range from vibrant green to rich gold (though gold is the most common shade), giving a striking contrast to their fur.

Tiffanies have a gently rounded head and a sweet and approachable expression. Their medium-sized ears are slightly rounded at the tips and set wide apart, enhancing their harmonious appearance.

Of course, their semi-longhaired coat is another captivating feature of this breed. It lies close to their body, flowing beautifully around the neck to form a subtle ruff and gently feathering along the legs and tail. Their fur shimmers with a silky, soft texture and can be in various colours and patterns, including solid, tabby, and shaded variations.

The temperament of a Tiffanie Cat

Tiffanies are among the most social and people-orientated cat breeds. They live for attention, so you'll find this cat attached to you at all times and constantly asking for cuddles.

Even so, they have a gentle, laid-back temperament and are not very vocal, meaning they won't scream at you for attention. Instead, they are more likely to let out soft chirps as they follow you from room to room.

Tiffanie cats are also super playful, and like most cat breeds, they can have a mischievous streak, especially when young. Tiffanies are known to steal small items from around the home, hiding them in secret spots for you to find later.

Tiffanies are often massive lap cats who enjoy nothing more than curling up in their owner's laps. They are also the type of cat who will sleep in your bed as close to you as possible!

Many Tiffanie owners also claim they are highly receptive to their owner's moods. They may notice if you are feeling down and try to console you by coming to sit on your lap or rubbing up against you.

Best homes for a Tiffanie cat

Being such social cats, Tiffanies are prone to separation anxiety. Therefore, they are best suited to retired owners or those working from home. Alternatively, they would be a good fit in a household with multiple occupants working different shifts.

Their friendly nature also means that Tiffanie cats do well in families with children. They adore the attention of kids and don't get nervous around them. However, they are not the most docile breed, so they may not tolerate rough handling from young children. Therefore, they are best suited to families with slightly older kids.

Many Tiffanie cats enjoy having a feline (or canine) companion around. However, they are known for being quite jealous and can act out if they feel like the other pet is getting more attention from you.

FAQs about the Asian Longhair

We recognize the importance of ethical breeding practices and know that not all breeders meet the high standards that cats deserve. That's why we've established strict procedures to collaborate exclusively with reputable, licensed breeders who align with our values of integrity and top-quality care.
Unlike large-scale breeding operations, we partner solely with private breeders who raise their kittens in loving family homes. In these environments, cats are cherished as part of the household, ensuring they are well-socialized, healthy, and happy.
This approach fosters confident, affectionate kittens who are ready to become beloved members of their new families.

A Tiffanie might be the perfect kitten for you if you're looking for a loving, loyal, and people-oriented companion. These cats thrive on human interaction and are happiest when they're part of your daily life. Considering this, they are ideal for retired couples, people working from home, or houses with multiple occupants working different shifts.

Tiffanies are prone to separation anxiety, so you should not choose this kitten if you are away from home for long periods.

Tiffanies can do well with families as they adore attention from all humans, big and small. However, they are best suited to older children as they may not tolerate improper handling by young kids.

We work exclusively with ethical, licensed breeders who prioritize their kittens' health, happiness, and well-being. Our breeders raise their kittens with love and care, ensuring they're ready to join their forever homes.
We recommend checking out our reviews page. Here you will find many glowing testimonials and heartwarming success stories, showcasing the strong, lifelong bonds we've helped create between people and their feline friends.

At The Pedigree Paws, the health and well-being of every kitten are our highest priorities. We are committed to ensuring that every kitten we place is 100% healthy, and we strictly prohibit the sale of kittens that do not meet this standard.
Our partner breeders follow rigorous health protocols to prepare their kittens for their new homes. Each kitten undergoes a comprehensive health check by a licensed veterinarian, ensuring they are in excellent condition before joining their forever family.
To uphold the highest standards of care, our breeders also perform DNA testing on both parents of their Tiffanie kittens. This process confirms the kitten's pedigree and ensures they are free from genetic disorders, giving you—and us—complete peace of mind.
To make your adoption journey seamless, every kitten also comes fully vaccinated, dewormed and microchipped. This means you can focus entirely on welcoming your new furry friend into your home and creating lasting memories together.

A kitten should remain with its mother for at least eight weeks, though the ideal time for separation can vary depending on the individual kitten's development. In many cases, allowing kittens to stay with their mother until they are 10 to 13 weeks old offers significant benefits for their physical and emotional growth.
We work closely with our trusted breeders to ensure each kitten is thoroughly prepared for their new home. Our breeders carefully assess the kitten's readiness, considering their health, socialization, and overall development, before deciding when they are ready to join their forever family.

Absolutely! We know how important it is to feel confident and reassured when selecting a pedigree kitten. That's why we're more than happy to arrange a video call, allowing you to meet the parents of your new kitten before making payment. Seeing the healthy, well-cared-for parents firsthand will give you peace of mind, knowing your new kitten comes from a loving and responsible environment.

Yes, every kitten on our platform comes with internationally recognized pedigree documentation. These documents are issued by prestigious breeding organizations, including GCCF, TICA, and FIFe, and are valid worldwide. This guarantees the authenticity of your kitten's heritage and offers peace of mind, knowing they come from a reputable background.

Our Tiffanie kittens are sourced from the most reputable breeders in Britain. These breeders are licensed, registered, and highly experienced, with a genuine passion for the well-being of their cats. Above all, they treat their Tiffanie kittens as beloved family members, ensuring they receive the highest level of care and attention.
We also ensure that our breeders strictly follow the guidelines leading international breeding organizations set. This commitment guarantees that your new Tiffanie kitten has had the best possible start in life, giving you confidence in their health and socialization.

We choose not to work with commercial breeding operations, as they often prioritize profit over the welfare of the kittens. In these facilities, kittens are frequently separated from their mothers too soon, which can lead to long-term health and behavioural challenges.
At The Pedigree Paws, we are committed to ethical breeding practices and partner exclusively with breeders who raise their kittens in loving, family-oriented environments. This ensures the kittens grow up in a safe, nurturing setting alongside their mothers and siblings, which fosters their physical and emotional well-being.

Tiffanies are a highly social and friendly breed, but like all young kittens leaving their mother and siblings, they may require some 'settling in time.'
You can help your new kitten settle in quickly by creating a quiet, safe space with soft bedding (we recommend 'donut cat beds'), a few fun toys, and a litter box that is easy to access (i.e., the entryway should not be too high).
Remember to be patient and allow your kitten ample time to adjust to their new surroundings. Offer gentle interactions gradually, going at their pace, rather than trying to force them to be a loving lap cat from day one.
