CLEAR ALLBorder Terriers were originally bred to be of assistance in foxhunts, by driving foxes out of their hiding holes and out into the open for hounds to chase. Today, these affectionate dogs are popular family pets and canine companions around the world.
These outgoing dogs are true workers with a strong hunting instinct and a powerful desire to dig. They are loving, loyal, and devoted companions for owners who are able to offer them plenty of mental and physical stimulation. One of the most remarkable traits of these dogs is their impressive stamina because of their ancestry of following horses all day long. Because of this, they need a tremendous amount of daily exercise and mental stimulation so they can become truly happy and well-rounded dogs. Without regular attention and exercise, they can become bored easily.
The Border Terrier has been around for many years. As their name suggests, these playful dogs originated from the border between Scotland and England. They have a fascinating ancestry that they share with the Bedlington, Dandie Dinmont, and Patterdale Terriers. While they have been around for a long time, it was only in 1920 that the Kennel Club officially recognised the breed.

The Border Terrier is a small breed that stands 27 to 37 cm tall and weighs 5 to 7 kg. They have sturdy, compact bodies with long, lean legs, resulting in impressive stamina and long strides. In addition, their feet feature well-formed, thick pads to protect against harsh or cold surfaces.
The Border Terrier’s long legs set them apart from other Terriers, which typically have short limbs. This allows them to keep up with horses when out on a hunt.
The Border Terrier’s “otter-like” head is another distinctive trait of this breed. They have a fairly broad skull, a short muzzle, and small, v-shaped ears. Their noses are typically black but can be liver or flesh-coloured, although less common. They have medium-sized dark eyes giving an alert and eager-to-please expression.
The Border Terrier has a thick double coat, consisting of a short, dense undercoat and a coarse, wiry topcoat, protecting them from cold and extreme weather conditions. Their fur will be one of four colours; red, wheaten (similar to fawn), grizzle and tan, or blue and tan.
Border Terriers have high intelligence and energy, so this dog needs lots of exercise and mental stimulation. They must be kept busy and given plenty of play opportunities and outdoor time.
Providing they get their exercise needs met, a border terrier will be a happy, affectionate, and delightful pet to have around the home. They thrive with active owners who can keep up with them and do well with families - their even temperament makes them suitable for children.
While border terriers are loyal and loving, they can also be determined and mischievous. So they are definitely not the most well-behaved dog in the world. However, if you’re looking for a challenge and want a small dog with a BIG personality, this is it.
It is easy to tell if your Border Terrier is not getting enough physical or mental stimulation as they will become loud or naughty. It is recommended to keep them busy with agility training and dog sports, which are ideal for a dog with such a keen and intelligent nature.
Border Terriers are protective, fearless, and not afraid to make noise, which makes them excellent watchdogs. You will no longer need a doorbell because this dog will alert you that someone is there before they even get a chance to knock.
Because of their high energy, this dog best suits an owner who leads an active lifestyle. For example, a border terrier may be ideal if you go running or hiking regularly and are looking for a buddy to keep you company.
Their energetic nature is also a good fit for busy family homes as they thrive on all the activity. What’s more, they are very well-behaved and tolerant of children.
A home with an enclosed garden will also be perfect as they can burn off their excess energy healthily. But ensure your garden is fenced completely, as these dogs are escape artists!
While friendly with humans, a border terrier is not the best fit for a multi-pet home. They will likely get along well if they grow up with another animal. However, introducing them to a furry friend as an adult may prove difficult, even if they receive early socialisation. Moreover, because of their high prey drive, they are not recommended for homes with small animals.

It's been a few months since we decided to find a Chihuahua puppy to join our family, however we had issues finding a good breeder.
We contacted The Pedigree Paws and they connected us with a very unique breeder in Greece. Many videos and pictures were shown, the breeder shared with us the proof of vaccinations, deworming and her 5 generation pedigree. We were fortunate as George, the breeder was able to deliver the puppy to us personally. We are very pleased with our beautiful Athena.
