CLEAR ALLOriginating in mainland Japan's most northern mountain regions, the Japanese Akita Inu is a spitz-type dog that is large in size, muscular, and well-proportioned. There are two types of Akit, the Japanese Akita Inu and the American Akita. They differ by the allowed coat colours and have slightly different temperaments.
The Japanese Akita Inu is known to be very calm by nature. They are affectionate, sensitive, and loving towards their families. However, they can be very wary of strangers. What Japanese Akita Inu owners love about these dogs is that they are highly adaptable but they do require plenty of exercise and socialisation to grow into well-rounded confident canines.
While they are known to be loving toward their families, the Japanese Akita Inu is not for everyone. These dogs are not ideal for novice pet parents because they need an owner who knows how to handle and train them with confidence. Moreover, they can be stubborn at times and not sociable towards other dogs. If you have the knowledge, time, and patience, the Japanese Akita Inu could be good a match for you. Once these dogs love you, you’ll understand why Akitas are beloved the world over.
These gorgeous dogs are best suited to owners who have secure back gardens and an area where they can roam around. Remember, that Akita dogs are excellent escape artists with intense prey drives so training is essential.

The Japanese Akita Inu is a large breed dog that stands 57 to 70 cm tall and weighs 34 to 55 kg. Their sturdy and robust build showcases their harmonious blend of power and elegance. They have muscular legs standing atop round feet and a high-set tail covered in thick fur curling over their back.
The Akita's shoulders and neck are robust, creating a solid foundation for their large, imposing head. They have small, almond-shaped eyes that radiate intelligence and attentiveness and erect triangular ears set wide apart.
One of the most striking features of the Japanese Akita Inu is its plush double coat, which can come in various colours, including white, brindle, sesame, and pinto. This luxurious coat adds to their aesthetic appeal and provides insulation against the harsh weather conditions they were historically exposed to in their native land.
Known for their loyalty and devotion, Akitas forge deep connections with their families and often become fiercely protective of their loved ones.
This loyalty extends beyond mere companionship; they are known to be vigilant guardians who take their responsibility to heart. With a strong sense of territory, they are natural watchful protectors, making them excellent choices for anyone who seeks a reliable and devoted companion.
However, despite their protectiveness, Akitas generally possess a calm and composed disposition. Most Akita owners describe these dogs as serene and dignified yet confident and courageous. They can also be very playful and have relatively high energy levels. They love to run free, so this breed thrives in a home with a secure back garden.
Due to their protective nature, early socialisation plays a crucial role in their development. It is essential to introduce them to many different people during puppyhood so that they can learn to distinguish between friend and foe.
Another thing to note about the Japanese Akita Inu is that they can exhibit an independent streak. This can sometimes be misunderstood as stubbornness, but it's a testament to their ancient heritage as hunters that required self-reliance and decision-making skills. Even so, this can make training an Akita a challenge, so they are best suited to experienced dog owners.
Due to their independent streak, the Japanese Akita Inu is best suited to an experienced dog owner. Knowing how to train a dog is essential with the Akita to ensure they grow into an affectionate and responsive companion. They also have relatively high energy levels, so they often need more than one daily walk. A home with a secure garden is ideal for this breed.
Akitas can do well in homes with older children, but they are not the best fit for small kids due to their size. Moreover, as a naturally territorial breed, Akitas do best as solo pets. However, if they grow up with another dog, they may accept them as an equal companion.

It's been a few months since we decided to find a Chihuahua puppy to join our family, however we had issues finding a good breeder.
We contacted The Pedigree Paws and they connected us with a very unique breeder in Greece. Many videos and pictures were shown, the breeder shared with us the proof of vaccinations, deworming and her 5 generation pedigree. We were fortunate as George, the breeder was able to deliver the puppy to us personally. We are very pleased with our beautiful Athena.
